Hello skiers and snowboarders,
Friday will bring some sun breaks to enjoy your turns. Saturday will bring some new snowfall and the map below shows that we will get from 5 to 8 inches for the West Cascades resorts of Mt. Baker, Stevens Pass, Snoqualmie Pass, and Crystal.
On Saturday the East Cascades and Inland Areas are expecting between 2 to 4 inches, this includes Mission Ridge, White Pass, 49 Degrees North, and Silver Mountain. All areas can expect windy conditions for later on Saturday and into Sunday.
Much more snow is expected on Sunday with the West Cascades resorts getting 12 inches as the map below indicates.
Take a look and keep on reading!
The map below gives a more general picture of the Pacific Northwest snowfall for Sunday. The Inland areas and the East Cascades will get new snowfall, but less than what the West Cascades will get.
Extended: More Powder
The moderate to heavy snow will continue for Monday with many areas getting another 12"+ of snowfall. Then on Tuesday, we are expecting a brief break in the moderate snow with some light snowfall and perhaps some brief sun breaks.
We will get additional snowfall from Wednesday to Friday (March 1). The map below shows cumulative snowfall from today through Friday, March 1 morning and many areas in the West Cascades will get from 60 to 72 inches.
We will update on this Sunday, February 25.

Grand Poobah of Powder Update
I had a blast skiing at Crystal the last couple of days. Skiing was similar both days with an inch or two of new each day. Skiing with a combination of brief snowfall and sunbreaks. Even with seasonal snowfall below normal, they have done a great job with grooming and snow management. A salute to groomers everywhere.
Elsewhere on the mountain, it was so much fun to watch the twelve- to fifteen-year-old girls and boys display their skills with the freeride steep skiing competition on the north side of Grubsteak (Elk Chute? above Blazing Elk). See picture. That’s an intense 45-degree downhill maze of snow, trees and rocks. Then interspersed with a few snow capped rock outcrops launch pads. Those kids were good! That is real skiing. Tactical, strategic, bold - but not careless, thoughtful and deliberate. All with superb skiing skills. Simply exciting and a joy to watch.
It’s sometimes been a difficult ski season. Warm storms have hurt the snowpack. El Niño warmth has not been kind to us, but that’s what was forecast. Some of the lower slopes, off the main runs, have marginal coverage. But the weather changes. And change is coming in a big way next week.
A robust weather pattern will produce low snow levels and lots of mountain snow. Two to three, maybe four feet of snow is coming – with low snow levels. Details ahead, but the real fun begins late in the weekend into much of next week. Stay tuned.
