Hello skiers and snowboarders,

Photo is from Denis DuBois skiing this weekend at Paradise Mt. Rainier and he reported variable powder and wind slab.

Short term

A broad trough of low pressure is off the California Coast and much of the moderate mountain snow is directed into the Sierra. However, the Washington Cascades will still get some light snowfall for the mid mountain slopes. This light snowfall will be the rule from today through Wednesday and early Thursday.

Late Thursday to Friday: late on Thursday a weak ridge of high pressure builds over the West Coast. This pattern will bring mild conditions with snow levels up 6000' for Friday and Saturday with some sun breaks. Perhaps this pattern will hold till next Sunday, February 25.

Extended Good News Bring It On!

All forecast models are showing a trough of low pressure (first map below) and associated cold air to start to move into our region on February 26. Of course this forecast is for 8 days out, so we will need to take that in account.

Also, too early to tell how much snow would be associated with this. However the extended outlook for Monday afternoon February 26 indicates snowfall totals of 8 inches at 2000' for much of the West Cascades (second map below).

The third map below shows the Pacific Northwest region and Whistler getting 12"+ and many of the Inland areas getting a good dose of snow. Stay tuned for our next update on Thursday February 22.
