Still sunny with snow in the long-term forecast.

Hello skiers and snowboarders,

We continue with the persistent pattern of a ridge of high pressure at the surface and aloft through at least the weekend. So we can expect some sun breaks and a cool start to the days. The only minor exception is a very weak weather system that brushes just north of us tonight and early Friday to bring a dusting of snow for Mt Baker and the inland areas of 49 Degrees North and Silver Mountain.

The map below is for Stampede Pass (4000' and SE of Snoqualmie Pass) and indicates some morning temps in the teens. Most of the ski resorts will have similar conditions. At least we are not expecting major wind which would make us feel much colder on our exposed skin - wind chill.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Friday: Slight chance of a dusting of snow for Mt Baker, 49 Degrees North, Silver Mt.

  • Saturday to Monday: Continued dry with sun breaks. Cold start to the day.

Make sure you check out our extended outlook below for some good news.

P.S.  There's a place for everyone, but we can't cover every place in every Powder Alert. For conditions and forecasts at your resort, please check their official website.

Extended Outlook 1-28 to 1-31

Dry then Powder Coming

We will continue with dry conditions during the early part of this week. The map below is the cumulative snow for the West Coast through late Thursday. The West Coast is dry except for the Southern Sierra in California which will get some much-needed snow. Then starting on Friday, forecast models are finally going to deliver some fresh powder. Most models agree on snow returning but it is too early to get a handle on the amounts.

The other two maps below are the extended outlook through February 5th, which points to some favorable conditions.

  • Below-average temperatures along with above-average precipitation are expected. These are the conditions we normally expect during a La Nina.

We will optimistically deliver some good news with our next update this coming Sunday.
