Little snow ahead

Hello skiers,

The weather pattern looks active, but the activity is not conducive to much new snowfall. We will get snow out of these modest storms, but generally the storms are wimpy. Sunday should be pretty good, with new snow and colder. By the middle of next week, we will see high pressure build in for a noticeable spring warm-up.

Heres how the forecast is shaping up.

Friday: Youll arrive on the slopes to a trace to 2 or 3 of new snowfall. Expect mostly cloudy skies (with sunbreaks) through the day and maybe a flurry. Temperatures will be at or above freezing on the lower slopes, so it may be a bit grabby at the bottom.

Saturday: A weak cold front from overnight will produce a little light snow by Saturday morning producing another minor refresh (1-4). During the day there will be cloudy skies with the chance of a little light snow at times.

Sunday: My pick for the weekend cool, with a little new snow .

Monday: snow level rising, rain/snow mix

Middle of next week: warming and drying trend spring skiing!

Ill update Sunday

Snowpack update

Washington ski area snow depth is running about 85-95% of normal with good coverage. However, Mission Ridge is running only 59% of average, so its a bit lean there. Overall, the snowpack in the Cascades is near to just a tad below normal. Typically, we are at our maximum snow depth in early April. Considering our current snowpack, we will easily make it to the end of the season with a respectable snowpack. As usual it may get a little thin on the lower and south facing slopes. Ill have a complete snow recap in April.

Remember too, the NW can have epic powder days in late March and even April. Yes, big cold powder storms come flying out of the Gulf of Alaska with our name on them. But right now, nothing like that is on the forecast horizon.

Here is how good it can get late season. This video from Stevens a few years back as rapper/snowboarder Nate Dogg rips the pow in late March
