Hello skiers and snowboarders,
By Monday morning we should have 4 - 6" of snow for the mid to upper slopes (at 4000/4500') at the Western Washington ski resorts. This snow will have fallen from Sunday afternoon through early Monday morning. Some models even suggest higher totals. The inland areas like 49 Degrees North and Silver Mountain will also get several inches of new snow late Sunday and early Monday. Some models suggest that we will have cold air trapped at the surface and warm air aloft on Sunday night. If this occurs, then we have the chance of some brief freezing rain Sunday night.
During the day on Monday, it should be dry with a slight chance of light snow for mid to upper slopes. Starting Monday night and into Tuesday, a strong trough of low pressure and associated cold front will move in. This will bring some moderate snow for the mid and upper slopes (close to 4000'). It will also be windy at times - 30 to 40 mph - so visibility will be challenging at times.
The map below is for the total snow for the 24-hour period ending Tuesday night December 24. This is new snow of 8 to 12 inches for the mid and upper slopes (close to 4000 feet). There will be lesser amounts at 3000 feet.
On Wednesday, Christmas Day, another weather system will move in mainly later in the day to bring additional snowfall into Thursday.
Monday: up to 1" of snow for mid and upper slopes
Tuesday: 8 - 12" for mid and upper slopes. Windy for the day
Wednesday: 4" of snow for late in the day and evening
Thursday: 8 - 12" for the mid and upper slopes
