Mix of sun,clouds, snow/wet snow

Hello skiers:

Expect more sunshine and spring skiing ahead for Friday. However, the weekend is a mixed bag.

The snowpack is very healthy for this time of year - at or above normal at most areas. That is almost a guarantee of good coverage and wonderful spring skiing in the weeks to come. This is the time of year (almost April), if the sun gets on the fresh powder snow it will degrade (get grabby, heavy) quickly, so move quickly when the fresh snow falls. The medium and upper elevations can still gain additional snowpack in April, while the lower slopes start to melt snow. For best ski results, you should favor north facing slopes for better snow quality and good preservation. We can still have excellent powder days in April, so watch for updates.

Here is the weekend ski/snow forecast:

Friday is looking good with great spring skiing. Rip a groomer. Expect fewer crowds on Friday, of course, with no lift lines. Expect mostly sunny skies. The snow will soften by lunchtime on the lower and south facing slopes.

Remember: The Summit is a quick getaway for a Friday. A suggested plan: a quick check in at work. Always walk around fast and carry papers to make it look like you are busy. Then sneak out the back door. Don't forget the sunglasses and sunscreen. Those are mandatory items for Friday. Consider: Banana Boat for sunscreen. I appreciate you supporting all of our Powder Alert sponsors.

Saturday a weak system moves by, with a 4500 ft snow level and a little rain snow mix lower for the slopes. Lower slopes may be grabby. Partial clearing after lunch is possible.

I prefer Sunday and Monday, with some sun and a 3,500ft SL. -- but still a chance of snow showers, both those days. Next Tuesday though Thursday, is uncertain with a snow level of 4000 to 5000ft with a rain snow mix on the lower slopes, but new snow upper slopes.

Whistler: Incredible sunshine on Friday with top to bottom runs recommended (Peak to Creek). North facing in the alpine will be very fun too! Saturday will see a minor rain/ snow mix below (Village) with new snow (1-2") in the alpine. Sunday is back to partly sunny skies and spring skiing, but a chance of snow is possible.
