If you like spring skiing youll love Friday. A high-pressure ridge is moving in and will produce partly to mostly sunny skies. Dont forget the Banana Boat sunscreen. The snow will get a bit grabby or mushy on the lower slopes by afternoon - so head up early. Unfortunately the sun won't last through the weekend.
The weekend will be a mixed bag with increasing clouds Saturday morning and a rain/snow mix on the lower slopes by afternoon (SL 4500ft) - expect snow on the upper slopes. The skiing looks best early in the day. Sunday may see some clearing at times, but there remains a chance of snow on the upper slopes, with a rain/snow mix below. There will be more unsettled weather in the Cascades next week.
The snow pack is above normal at most areas. Coverage is excellent. There has been almost no snowmelt, so far, on the middle and upper slopes. April has seen above normal snow accumulations.
Please check your favorite ski areas, because some areas will close after this weekend. Others will have limited hours or limited lifts running.
Friday: Mostly sunny - total spring skiing day, getting mushy by afternoon on medium and lower slopes. Its still winter in the alpine with fabulous coverage and skiing.
Saturday and Sunday will see new snow in the alpine and winter-like conditions into Monday. Expect respectable new snowfall above mid station and certainly in the alpine by Monday. Whistler closes after this weekend, with Blackcomb remaining open.
Ill have a couple more power alerts coming out - when Ill wrap up the season and give you an outlook for next season.
BTW: Alpental is weekends only, then Cinco de Mayo Friday - a great tradition
