Spring skiing is here, and so are longer days with more sunshine.
But winter does not give up easy here in the Pacific NW. A new weather system in the queue, and now moving through tonight, into Friday, with lingering snow into Saturday. Expect new snow Friday and Saturday, but also, peaks of weekend sunshine late on Saturday and early Sunday.
Despite the mild conditions in the last week, the snowpack continues at or above normal. Yes, you can expect good skiing and excellent snow coverage into April. I do NOT expect the quick snow melt seen in April 2016. A persistent, strong high-pressure ridge produced that warm, dry weather pattern - I don't see a repeat setting up. This year I expect a more typical April, with a mixture of Cascade snow, clouds, rain and occasional sun. A typical NW spring, with a mixed bag of weather.
The weather system moving in tonight will be bring new snow to the middle and upper slopes ( a mix lower slopes) into Friday morning (3-7") with snow level of 3000-4000ft. Expect new snow during day on Friday (2-5"). Then another 2-5" overnight Friday into Saturday morning with a lowering snow level to 2500-3000ft, which means most slopes will have new snow Saturday morning. I like that program, with better quality snow from the lowering snow level.
Later Saturday into early Sunday expect partial clearing skies and spring skiing with hints of sunny skies. You'll need that Banana Boat sunscreen, so have it handy. The spring sunshine, once it comes out, can be intense in the mountains.
Next week will see more unsettled weather, with occasional snow accumulation, mixed with clearing periods.
Whistler: Not much difference in weather up at Whistler. Expect the same sequence of snowfall, clearing periods - but a bit more snowfall Friday. The snow level will be a tad lower, with snow just about down to the Village. Remember when visiting BC: there is always a hockey game on some tv channel at all times - and always cheer for the Vancouver Canucks.
The skiing at Whistler / Blackcomb will be limited to just Blackcomb by late April, as they began to wind down. Check W/B for details.

I enjoyed the famous Beast Mode burger and a blue cheese salad wedge last weekend...my oh my, was that good! I am just saying...ya gotta give em a try! I had an Elysian Immortal too, perfect to round out the meal. Tip: Be hungry when you arrive. It can be busy on weekends -- arrive early. I like sitting at the bar in front of all the beer taps, staring at and evaluating the " the Beer Curve" and all the taps. Tipsy Cow (Redmond) regulars, you know what I am talking about.
